About Calvary Chapel Southbury

About Us

Calvary Chapel Southbury is a non-denominational, evangelical, Christian Church devoted to knowing Jesus and walking with Him. It is located in Bennett Square on Main Street in Southbury, Connecticut.

History

This fellowship began as a home church in 1998, with just a small gathering of believers studying God’s Word. As time passed, the group began to grow and God provided a location in a commercial plaza in Southbury as a meeting place. The church now occupies four consecutive store fronts in that same building, which have been remodeled to accommodate the expanding church family. Included in this redesign are updated Children's Ministry classrooms as well as a furnished Teen Center furnished for youth group meetings and monthly Potluck gatherings.

Calvary Southbury is a family-friendly church, considered local to believers from the western portion of Connecticut and parts of New York, who come to worship and grow in the Lord. Most attendants hail from the surrounding towns of Southbury, Oxford, Middlebury, Woodbury, Watertown, Newtown, Brookfield, Bethel, Danbury, New Milford, Seymour, Waterbury, Bethlehem, Litchfield, Harwinton, and Torrington.

Ministries

Calvary Chapel Southbury takes seriously the call that Jesus gives to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39, Mark 12:31). In local communities, there is opportunity to serve our neighbors through the Loaves and Fishes Ministry, and the Abbott Terrace Hospitality Ministry. Also, Community Growth Groups and Discipleship Groups are available, and are ways to extend God’s loving hand to brothers and sisters through Bible study, fellowship, and encouragement.

In this age, however, being “neighbors” assumes a global responsibility as well. Epicenter Solutions, a non-profit organization spearheaded by Calvary Southbury, aims to be a loving global neighbor by reaching out to the people of Malawi and Mozambique. Helping the victims of the recent deadly food crisis, as well as those infected and affected by the HIV/AIDS and Malaria pandemics are considered priorities. Other projects include providing access to clean water by drilling boreholes, opening medical clinics, and pastoral leadership training with the “Bibles for Pastors” initiative. Also, the Sewing Circle of Love Ministry works from the home front to provide clothing for needy children and elderly specifically in Malawi.

Calvary Southbury is affiliated with a group of international churches begun by Pastor Chuck Smith of Costa Mesa, California. Though Calvary Chapel is not a denomination, the movement is known for its mission to teach through books of the Bible chapter by chapter, and verse by verse. At Calvary Southbury, emphasis is placed on spiritual growth through teaching God’s Word, prayer, discipleship, and worship. It is believed that:

Worship of God should be Spiritual.
Therefore: We remain flexible and yielded to the Holy Spirit to direct our worship
Worship of God should be Inspirational.
Therefore: We give a great place to music in our worship
Worship of God should be Intelligent.
Therefore: Our services are designed with great emphasis upon teaching of the Word of God that He might instruct us how He should be worshipped
Worship of God should be Fruitful.
Therefore: We look for His love in our lives as the supreme manifestation that we have truly been worshiping Him

Services at Calvary Chapel Southbury are held on Sundays at 10:00 am and the mid-week Bible study is on Thursday nights at 7:00 pm.
